Ryan Green's first league goal for four years settled a tight encounter between two struggling teams and moved Hereford further from the relegation zone, while extending Cheltenham's poor run to one win in 11.
However, Trewick's team had to dig deep for their second away win of the season, after young midfielder James McQuilkin became their third player to see red in two games, shortly before the interval.
Trewick said: "We looked good until James McQuilkin was sent off. It was only his second foul of the game, and quite honestly worse tackles went unpunished later on.
"The second half was fantastic to watch, we really dug in, and Adam Bartlett produced some good saves.
"We've played a lot of games recently, and I always had Cheltenham chalked up as a more likely result than Notts County. I kept some fresh legs for this game, and its worked out as I hoped it might."'
