Former Aston Villa captain Shaun Teale has applied for the Hereford United manager's job.The Bulls relieved John Trewick of his duties on Monday with chairman Graham Turner taking over team affairs.

Teale, 46, has managed Northwich, Chorley and Burscough, who he took to 2003 FA Trophy success.

He told BBC Hereford & Worcester: "It's up to Graham Tuner what he is looking for, if he is looking for a young manager or someone with experience."

He added: "I have emailed the club to let them know of my interest."

Teale joined Villa from Bournemouth for £300,000 in 1991 and played 181 games for them before moving on to Tranmere in 1995.

The one thing they have not done is score enough goals this season. The top scorer has only got eight

Shaun Teale on Hereford's season

Teale admits it is not easy to find a job in the Football League.

He said: "It is a strange world as an awful lot of the time the jobs are taken before the man goes out of the door.

"It is quite a closed shop and the art is breaking into the closed shop and getting your coat on the peg.

"I have kept an eye on jobs coming up, and I know Graham Turner and I think it is an interesting job so why not apply for it?"

Teals says he has looked at the Bulls' record this season, and feels there are some clear changes to be made.

"The one thing they have not done is score enough goals this season, the top scorer has only got eight," he reflected.

"They have also conceded too many, and the discipline is not the best, they have had a few sent off.

"Everything starts at the back, if your back four is tight, and there is discipline you will win games."
